404 #1 - Genre and Character Development

When presented with choosing a genre, I instantly wanted to do horror, as my previous module had been cute and comedy centred, so I wanted to do something more dark.

I drew initial plot inspiration from the slasher genre, so the plot was a very basic 'escape the killer' with a protagonist trying to escape a serial killer in a dark forest. Visually I drew inspiration for the characters and environments from more modern interpretations of the slasher genre like Dead By Daylight and Friday the 13th: The Game.

I started with the antagonist, since the antagonist are always the most memorable and recognizable in slasher horror. I took inspiration from various killers like pig masked kidnapper from the Saw franchise, the Huntress and the Legion from Dead By Daylight.
For the protagonist, I drew some inspiration from myself and from a variety of the victims in Scream, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street.
